Humble Start:

My life wasn’t easy from the beginning. It was quieter then. No screaming, no being slapped around, no drugs, no Hell. It was all quiet. My sister, Bethany, and I were happy little kids. Mom was a little happy as well. Even though Beth and I saw her crying to herself from time to time, she wasn’t as bad as she was now. My mother had been sober still she was pregnant with me. I was the one who put their marriage to the test. My parents were still trying to hold everything together. They weren’t sure if she could handle a baby well. They even considered giving me up for adoption.

But, they kept me in the end. Dad was happy he did. Mom seemed okay to keep me. Life looked decent until Bethany was born. Everything got a little better. We became a humble little unit. Until that cold fateful night when I was nine.

*Present Day*

The door slowly opened to our dorm. Dad stood in the doorway with a small smile. He moved aside and revealed my mom. I was shocked to see her again. She looked as if she didn’t remember anything before she was committed. Her face was so pale and blank. I began to wonder if it was the same person at all.

I slowly took a step forward. “Mom?” I asked in caution. She said nothing. Mom just looked at me blankly. My dad put his arm around her. “I took her to rest now.” he said. Then, he took her away to their room.

I watched nervously. What just happened? My mom went from lunatic to fading ghost. I was expecting her to be angry at us. This is not good!
