Sun Secrets

Another day out for the old biddies. Just go out, explode nature, eat, go to library, eat again, and go home.

What else can they do? They are all retired. Clyde’s never worked a day in her life. Lewis doesn’t do much on her farm. They are of divorced, single, or widowed. Clyde’s husband just ran off with a hooker. Muriel’s kids are in college. There isn’t much to do.

Pauline looked at her friends. “What have we done with our lives?”

Muriel, Lewis, and Clyde all eyed her. “Huh?”

The rich old biddy shrugged. “I just feel like we don’t really do much in life.”

“Why?” Lewis asked. Pauline rolled onto her back.

“I feel so empty,” she said.

“Something wrong?” Muriel asked. Pauline shook her head.

“Not really,” she said. “Just a little bit bored.” The other three stared at her, blinking.

“You’re not making sense,” Muriel said.

“Says the philosopher,” Lewis mumbled Clyde burped aloud. Pauline made a face at her.

“That’s gross!” she yelled.

“Wha?” the old biddy asked.

“Say ‘excuse me’!” Pauling barked.

“Nah!” Clyde said. “I ain’t sayin’ it!” The rich old lady tried to crawl over and hit her. Lewis and Muriel tried to hold her back as best as they could.

“Stop it!” Muriel cried. “It’s too early for that! Cut it out!”

“Let me go!” Pauline screamed. “Let me at her! Let me at her!” Clyde laughed the whole time.

The Sunny Plum Café at mid-morning. Annie made the coffee again. She sighed aloud to husband. Tucker didn’t notice it. His wife cleared her throat again. No response again. Annie cleared her throat even louder. Tucker lowered his rag.

“What do you want?” he asked. His wife frowned.

“I’m hinting at you,” she said.

“Hinting at me?” he asked. Annie tapped her foot on the floor.

“Do you know what tomorrow is?” she asked.

“What?” her husband asked. His wife rolled his eyes.

“You’re just hopeless, you tosser!” she mumbled under her breath. Then she stormed back into the kitchen with Tucker looking at her confused.

“What?” he asked again as he followed after her. “Talk to me woman!”

“Nope!” Annie yelled back.

“At least tell me what’s wrong!” he shouted.

“It’s our anniversary tomorrow!” his wife shouted from the kitchen. Tucker’s face just dropped.

“Oh…” he mumbled. An elder customer kept his face low to his plate. Tucker cut an evil glare at him.

“What?!?” he barked.

“I didn’t say anything,” the old man said. Tucker glared to himself as he went back to the register.

The four old biddies walked on the dirt path back into town. Lewis looked at her friends.

“So,” she said. “What are we doing today?”

“Going to the library,” Muriel said.

“After that?” the farmer asked.

“Go to the Sunny Plum,” Pauline answered.

“After that?” the farmer asked again.

“Nothin’ much,” Clyde said. She dodged Pauline’s hit just in time. She stuck out her tongue at her. The rich old lady sneered as she tried to hit her again. This time, Muriel grabbed her by the arm. Lewis nodded.

“Oh,” she said.

“Yeah,” the other three replied.

“Just like yesterday?” Lewis asked.

“Pretty much,” Muriel said.

“Oh,” Lewis said again. They walked straight into town.

Clover looked at the fresh empty flower pots. Uncle and younger niece had work to do today. He would tend to the trees while she grew some spices.

“Let’s see,” she said. “Basil, parsley, and ginger root.” Clover smiled to herself. “Perfect! Let’s get to work.” She put on her garden gloves and dug holes to put in the seeds. A loud groan from the kitchen distracted her. Clover didn’t turn around.

“Is there a problem, Liz?” she asked. Her older sister groaned again.

“This is too hard!” she complained.

“How so?” Clover asked.

“What is this stuff in the drain?”

“What stuff?”

“I don’t know… It looks all sludgy!”

“Sludgy?”

“Yeah! And it’s brown too. Eww! Gross! I think I got some on my arm! Eww! Get it off! Get it off!”

Clover shook her head to herself. “Hang on, I’m coming.” She turned and walked back into the house. She’s hopeless…, the younger girl thought.

Mrs. Brown was checking back in book when someone caressed along her wide hips. She heart raced as she paused.

“Ooo!” she cooed. A kiss caressed her nape. She gasped aloud as she dropped the books on the counter. “Oh!” she whimpered.

Mr. Brice moved next to her. “You smell good.” He smirked as he as he said that.

His assistant blushed. “Oh, Mr. Brice…”

His hand caressed her dainty wrist. Mrs. Brown’s heart fluttered again as he moved in closer.

“Mr. Brice!” she said. “Someone might see us!”

He nuzzled her neck. “I don’t care! I just have to have you!”

Mrs. Brown felt her knees go weak. Her lover moved back behind her. His lips lightly touched her ear. “Do you know what I want to do with you right now?”

“What?” Mrs. Brown whimpered.

He kissed her on the nape. “I want to take you far away somewhere and…” he whispered.

“And do what?” a loud voice asked them. The couple quickly separated. Clyde and the other old biddies watched them. Mr. Brice cleared his throat.

“What do you want?” he asked. “Are you here to loiter in the library?”

“And what’s wrong with that?” Lewis asked. “This a public place.” The old librarian sneered at her.

“Yes!” he said.

“Why?” Muriel asked. “Why don’t cause any trouble, do we?”

“No…” Mrs. Brown muttered. Pauline grinned at her.

“Then, it’s okay for us to be here, right?” she said. Mrs. Brown lowered her head.

“I guess…” she mumbled. Lewis turned to her friends.

“Come on, you lot!” she called. “You heard the woman, let’s go!”

“Yay!!!” the other old biddies cheered. Mr. Brice clenched his teeth as he they all walked to their usual spot in the back room. His eyes moved to his lover.

“You weakened out there, my love,” he hissed. Mrs. Brown kept her head low.

“I’m so sorry,” she said. He patted her on the shoulders.

“That’s okay, love,” the old librarian whispered. “Their time here won’t last. They’ll see. They’ll see. Trust me.” His hand tighten on her shoulder.

“Mr. Brice, you’re hurting me,” Mrs. Brown whispered.

“Whoops, sorry,” he whispered back. Mr. Brice quickly let go and went back to work himself. He would get his revenge… one day.
