Chapter Five: The Council:

As I held Cassie in my arms, I knew that the bastards at the council would learn about her soon. I knew how those bastards worked. Something told me that Cassie and Blake were in danger. I don’t know, but I had the feeling that I had something to do with. Have those bastards at the council found out about my secret with Elizabeth? Nah, that can’t be! The new council burns old documents after thirty years. Our case is close to forty now. So, we should be safe now. But, why am I not convinced of that myself? Either way, Cassie needs my help. So, I will protect her no matter what.

*Back at the Council*

“We have a violation in Japan!”

“What might this violation be?”

“The harlot, Elizabeth Campbell.”

“Elizabeth? But her case expired ten years ago.”

“It has been renewed through her daughter, Cassie!”

“Oh? Do tell…”

“She has made contact with the banished doctor.”

“Doctor William Stonem? He’s still alive?”

“Yes, my lord.”

“I thought he would have committed suicide by now!”

“No, my lord. His body won’t let him do so.”

“Pity…”

“Why is that?”

“Would have saved us a Hell of a lot of a headache if he had committed suicide.”

“Still, it wouldn’t be as exciting without him.”

“True, true.”

“So what should we do with the Campbell girl?”

“Kill her and her brother!”

“She has a brother?”

“Yeah, they are twins.”

“Oh yeah, I almost forgot about him!”

“He’s not much of a threat compared to his sister.”

“How can you be so certain of that? Neither of one has showed any signs of their powers developing at all. They are going to be seventeen soon.”

“It doesn’t matter, their powers could choose to manifest at any given moment.”

“Either way, they both must be killed!”

“But who do we kill for first?”

“The girl!” they all agreed. The head of the new council wrote down the degree and burned the paper. The decision now stood into law. Cassie would have to die in order to keep the order sound in England. The council leader put out his pipe and set down his pen.

“It is settled then,” he said. “We shall kill Cassandra Campbell and her brother, Blake, to prevent another storm from destroying England.”

“Agreed!” the rest of the council said in unison. The head of the new council looked on at Cassandra’s name as the paper burned away into cold black ashes. The cruel hunting murder games had begun again.

*Stonem*

I have to protect Cassie, no matter what!
