THE SILVER
IN YOUR HAIR
Ross H.L. Bowen
I can tell that you've been living here a long time
By the number of your birthdays that have passed
But the fact that you are five years over sixty
Doesn't mean that your next day will be your last.
Do not be ashamed, and try to cover over
The whiteness that is showing clearly now
Silver is a payment sent by Nature
For fifty years of furrows in your brow.
You can stand up now and act quite proudly
Of the many years that you have been on earth
Do not try to hide how long that you have been here
And what you did since the mornin' of your birth!
Your head is covered now with white
Like snow, that falls down on a winter's night.
But experience is what helped put it there
That's the reason for the
SILVER IN YOUR HAIR.
