Old Hymns
Joan Clifton Costner
Old hymns with precious, keeping words,
Some from the fifteen hundreds;
I would never throw away, but
Add more to my mem’ry.
Old hymns can bring salvation when
The words become so known;
They speak of our eternity and our
Gorgeous heavenly home.
Old words with notes and wisdom;
Jam packed with brilliant thoughts,
Yet so simple little children can
Understand as they’re taught.
Old hymns, we carry onward and
Can sing around the throne
With those who’ve found salvation
When we finally make it home.
Old hymns - as precious jewels,
Decorating the walls of our mind,
We learn them twice ~ in melody
And also in their rhyme.
And who can tell the resting place
When all is said and done?
You’ll find them there in Heaven
But in hades n’er a one!
