Beauty, which is a model of certain characteristics, is of course different from an usable thing having those characteristics really. The beautiful model isn't a ground for life while the usable thing is. But the beautiful thing may be important to emotional life, to the valuing of emotions and goals in life, as a social guideline in that, as a visual environment (suitable living conditions, sensed model of a goal, social message) or otherwise even though it isn't as concretely, unavoidably needed as food for example is.
