My Reason To Smile

You never really ever learn how to smile,
Until your very heart strings are wrapped around a child.

Until he wraps his tiny little hand around your finger,
You've never truly witnessed tears that linger.

For nothing ever made life so worth while,
As the love a mother feels for her child.

Did you ever look towards the heavens and ever see,
More bluer eyes than the ones looking back at me?

More purer innocence has there ever been or ever was,
Than the innocence a child shows and does.

More humble could I ever be,
Than to be a grandmother to this child depending on me.

Please Lord lead me by the hand,
Help me be a good example to my fellow man.

Help me to be a good parent to this child,
That's given me so many reasons now to smile.

Help me teach him as he learns and grows,
And teach him all the things he needs to know.

How to dress and tie his shoes,
And why it's always important to pay life's dues.

How when he plays, how he should share,
And when a friend cries, to show how much he cares.

Help me Lord to be the best Grandma that I can,
While my time last here on your land,

And when my time here has come and gone away,
Show him that I'm still with him each and every day.

And how I'll watch over him from heaven above,
Where I'll watch him grow and learn to love.

And as long Lord as I walk upon your land,
How in my heart he'll always be my little man.
