When I was just a young girl I had this friend.
She was my light in the dark, my beginning, my end.

She was that friend that left permanent
footprints on my soul.
The one that can never be replaced,
the one that made me whole.

And then a stranger came, and took my Carrie away
He was so mean to her, mistreated he night and day.

I wanted so badly, just to wrap my arms around,
keep her safe from her where her world would be sound.

But by still being very young myself, I was rendered helpless as a kitten as they might say,
And I often wonder how my Carrie is to this day.

If she only knew the difference, that she made in my life,
But I haven't seen her since she became that awful mans wife.

Oh my sweet Carrie, please come home and let me shelter you from the storm.
Let me wrap my arms around you and your boys,
and keep ya'll safe and warm.
Let me be your friend again, please let me back in your life.
So I can pay you back for the footprints you gave me,
before you became his wife.

I've never stop caring about you,
for you own a place in my heart....
And forever you will own that space,
forever it will be your part
For how could I ever forget you,
for all the things you've meant to me?
For part of my being, and part of my soul you will always be.
You've left permanent foot prints on my heart dear friend, You've embedded you heart on my soul.
Come home my sweet Carrie,
and once again make me whole.
