Richard C. Carner
1921-2007


Richard (Dick) C. Carner, 85, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007. He was born in Roanoke on June 11, 1921 to the late Samuel T. Carner and Jessie Fuqua Huddleston Carner. He was a United States veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in World War II. Dick retired from Associated Transport in Roanoke after 20 years and was a member of the teamsters union. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Foutz Carner of Roanoke; two daughters, Jeannene Bates and her husband Joe, of Charleston, S.C., and Judy Gibson and her husband Kirk, of Roanoke; a sister, Ann Jacobs and her husband Richard, of Scottsdale, Arizona; a brother, Robert Carner and his wife Ruth, of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Eric Bates, Keith Gibson, Dana Bates and Todd Bates; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and his Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 26, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Rd. SW.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 12 noon at Lotz Roanoke Chapel with Pastor Faith Weedling officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton with military honors provided by VFW post #1264.

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church building fund, 3009 Mount Pleasant Blvd., Roanoke, Va. 24014.
