Here are some photos as we make progress
Here is the roof stripped so that they could remove the soaking wet insulation that was already molding!
A photo showing a sample of the staining on the attic side of the second floor ceiling
The pile of moldy, wet insulation..ewww!
Stripping the upstairs ceilings sounded easy. Holy Cow! what a mess. It was a VERY labor intensive process and involved wetting the textured ceiling, scraping it off, retaping (if needed) and mudding the ceiling (and in the case of the master bedroom this meant a thin coat of mud over the entire ceiling!), priming, painting and then cleaning the stripped material up off and out of the floors, because even though they had plastic down it got under it and was imbedded in the cracks between the boards in the floor (hardwood floor). We are talking DAYS of LABOR!
The ceiling in the Master bedroom, scraped down. This ceiling was very wet and is sagging a bit
The ceiling in the large bedroom, scraped down. This ceiling had more water stains BUT is in better shape then we thought it would be
The hallway ceiling stripped. Yikes I can see the sky!
Bathroom ceiling stripped. YUCKY!
THE CONTRACTOR AND CARPENTERS ARE DONE! I can have my quiet house back! No more air compressor, no more nail guns and no more people in and out all day.....
Bathroom ceiling is done. I just need to touch up the paint on the walls.
Hall ceiling is done, including repairing the fist sized hole the water made. I just need to touch up the walls
Master bedroom ceiling and wall damage fixed! I just need to finish the final coat of paint.
Large bedroom ceiling done! Closet just needs me to do a final coat of paint, oh and take down those red dots!
The living room, kitchen and dining rooms ceilings are done! After our experience upstairs stripping, fixing and cleaning up after the ceiling job, we discovered that for the EXACT same $$ total, but less actual labor we could do this to the ceiling instead. I like it!
The office is done, yeah! I can't wait to get all my stuff back in here.
The damage to the dormer walls, insulation and clapboards is all better now. Just waiting for Rob and I to put the final coat of paint on.
A NEW metal roof on the dormer. That looks much better than the silver and blue tarps!
