INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING OUR BLOGS ON ANGELFIRE
ANGELFIRE BLOG SITES
Angelfire provides free blog sites on www.angelfire.com . The Angelfire site I use is a free one. Angelfire also has blog sites that have a monthly fee. The big difference is that the free ones have advertising on the top and bottom of the screens; the ones that charge a fee do not. Also the ones that charge a fee have more storage space and some other attributes.
As this instruction was being written I have several active Angelfire blog sites as follows:
www.angelfire.com/hiphop/richnelson
This one is for my Computers A to Z class
This one is for a Shell Point Question and Answer bulletin board
www.angelfire.com/blog/rrnelson
This one is for The Brooks Enrichment Center
www.angelfire.com/planet/qanda
This one is for experimenting with for Richard Nelson
It is very easy to set up a free blog site on Angelfire but managing it is another story.
LEVELS OF SHELL POINT BLOG POSTINGS
My Angelfire blog sites for Shell Point, like most blog sites, have three levels of postings.
Posting an Entry
and
Posting Comments to an Entry
and
Posting Comments to comments
POSTING PERMISSIONS
The average person using a blog site is limited to posting comments or comments to comments.
Only the blog master that has password access to the blog site is allowed to post an Entry, edit and Entry or delete an Entry or a comment
Commentors can not delete either a posted Entry or comments even their own.
In special cases the Blog master can give selected people the capability of posting an Entry.
ADDRESS AND PASSWORD
The way you get into the Shell Point blog site for students in the Computers “A to Z course to see the posted entries or to make comments is to link to the following web address
www.angelfire.com/hiphop/richnelson
If you hold down the Ctrl key and click on the above address you will be linked to the blog site.
NOTE: Holding down the Ctrl Key and clicking will work with any of the blog addresses listed above.
When you are in this part of the blog site you can read the entries to the blog and you can post comments to an entry but you can not post new a new entry.
POSTING A COMMENT
Posting a comment to an entry is easy. Anyone can post a comment after logging in to the blog. Here is the way it works:
As we said above, when you are in the blog site www.angelfire.com/hiphop/richnelson you can post comments without having to login with a Member Name and password. Just pick out the Entry that you want of post a comment to and click on “Post a Comment”. (Please refer to the display above. That will take you to a Comment Input form.
Type in your name and other identifiers like your email address - you don’t have to type in your email address unless you want to.
Now just type in your comment in the text area. It is good practice to sign it even though you put your name in the Name field above. Then go down and click on Continue. That will take you to the Confirm Comment form.
In the Confirm Comment form you can read your comment and edit it if it needs changing. If it doesn’t need editing, just click on the Post Comment button in the lower left corner.
You will be taken back to the original entry. And there you will see all the comments for that entry including yours. You should be aware that in most cases it takes several minutes for the comment to be posted
POSTING AN ENTRY
On the hiphop/richnelson blog site, I have arranged for you to Post an Entry. Below are the instructions for making an Entry.
Once you are in www.angelfire.com/hiphop/richnelson , take notice on the left side of the screen and you will see a column of stuff. Come down under Control Panel and click on “Edit your Blog”. You will get a new page where you will be asked for you User name and password. This part of the blog site requires that you have a Username and password. See below..
USER NAMES FOR GETTING BLOG MANAGER ACCESS
The User names are: ypoc1 to ypoc10. Each of you will get one of these to give you access to the blog managers part of the blog site.
The password is: I WILL GIVE THIS OUT IN CLASS WHEN IT IS APPROPIATE.
Please do not give this password to anyone outside of our class- thanks
Once you get into Blog Manager (sometimes called the Control Panel) you can post a new entry to the blog. We are only going to use the Entry Management block for awhile. I would ask you not to use any of the others. It is quite easy to mess up a blogging system if you do anything else but to post a net entry.
So if you want to create a new entry click on the “Create a New Entry” button. Creating a new entry is very similar to sending an email. Fill out the form; you will have to experiment for awhile to see what happens when you are creating an entry. When you are finished, click on the Post button in the lower left corner.
