PBAN Rubber
PBAN - Polybutadiene Acrylic Acid Acrylonitril Terpolymer (PBAN).
This was the formulation widely used on the 1960-70's big boosters (Titan III
& Shuttle). PBAN offered several advantages over PBAA, namely greater tear
resistance. However, it was rapidly replaced by more powerful ploybutadiene
synthetic rubbers. Today, its primary use is by amateur rocket enthusiasts as
it is relativily cheap to make and has lower toxicity than the more modern HTPB
rubber binder.
