2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all
their vast array.
2:2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been
doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
2:3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy,
because on it he rested from all the work of created that he
had done. Adam and Eve
2:4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when
they were created.
When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens-
2:5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth
and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God
had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work
the ground,
2:6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the
whole surface of the ground-
2:7 the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man
becamea living being.
2:8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east,
in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
2:9 And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the
ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.
In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree
of the knowledge of good and evil.
2:10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from
there it was separated into four headwaters.
2:11 The name of the first is Pishon; it winds through the
entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
2:12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx
are also there.)
2:13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds
through the entire land of cush.
2:14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along
the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates
2:15 The LORD God took the man and put
him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep
it.
2:16 And the LORD God sommanded the man,
saying,"You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,
2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in th day that you eat of it you shall surely die."
2:18 Then the LORD God said,"It is not good
that the man should be alone; I will make
him a helper fit for him."
2:19 So out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast
of the field and every bird of the heavens and
brought them to the man to see what he
would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
2:20 The man gave names to all livestock and to
the birds of the heavens and to every beast of
the field. But for Adam, there was not found
a helperfit for him.
2:21 So the LORD God caused
a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while
he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its
place with flesh.
2:22 And the rib that the LORD
God had taken from the nam he made into a
woman and brought her to the man.
    2:23 Then the man said,
"This at last is bone of my bones
       and flesh of my flesh;
      she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man."
2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and
his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
2:25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not
ashamed.
