The camera on the USS Fletcher photographs the DeHaven survivors on a landing ship.  Notice the lack of life jackets and shirts (flash-burn) even though Japanese planes had just departed a short time earlier and additional enemy planes could be hiding behind the clouds.  And, of course there could be submarines lurking which was why the destroyers were circling in the first place.
