TOP 20 College Football Teams for 2007
Wednesday November 29th, 2006

1. Michigan: Chad Henne and Mike Hart are both juniors, and wide receiver Mario Manningham is only a sophomore. If those three return then the Wolverines will be the consensus #1 pick for 2007.

2. USC: Just thinking about the possibility of quarterback John David Booty returning with running backs Chauncey Washington and Desmond Reed in the backfield makes you think about another national title for the Trojans.

3. Arkansas: The Razorbacks are going to unbelievably good again if Darren McFadden and Felix Jones both come back to a backfield that will include either Casey Dick or Mitch Mustain at quarterback. Wide receiver Marcus Monk is a junior and might test the NFL Draft's waters. If he doesn't then the Razorbacks are going to be very dangerous in the SEC.

4. Texas: Quarterback Colt McCoy returns with Jamaal Charles at running back. Billy Pittman will probably become his main target at wide receiver because Limas Sweed will probably enter the NFL Draft.

5. West Virginia: Pat White and Steve Slaton return again, and for the third straight season will probably be the nation's sexy pick for a national championship game appearance.

6. LSU: Jamarcus Russell returns at quarterback (unless he enters the NFL Draft and even if he does Matt Flynn can get the job done) along with Alley Broussard and Jacob Hester in the backfield.

7. Ohio State: Troy Smith leaves so the Buckeyes will have to find a new quarterback, they have about four to choose from. Antonio Pittman, Chris Wells, and Maurice Wells all return at running back but wide reciever Ted Ginn is almost surely going to the NFL.

8. Florida: Everyone knows Tim Tebow will be the Gators quarterback but the main question is at running back. It will either be Kestahn Moore or Marcus Manson. If Reggie Nelson returns at safety (don't count on it) then the defense will be rough. Wide receiver Andre Caldwell is a junior with a tough choice to make. Percy Harvin will be a sophomore and is listed at wide receiver but will line up anywhere.

9. California: If speedster wide receiver Desean Jackson returns then Nate Longshore should have a great season in 2007. As far as running back Marshawn Lynch goes, I believe he is NFL bound.

10. Texas A&M: This is my sleeper team for 2007. Quarterback Stephen McGee and huge linebacker built running back Javorskie Lane will make them tough to defeat.

11. Auburn: Quarterback Brandon Cox returns with Brad Lester in the backfield, and hopefully they can come up with something to stop Darren McFadden by then.

12. Wisconsin: Quarterback John Stocco is gone but any team with a running back like P. J. Hill in the backfield will be tough to compete with in 2007.

13. Notre Dame: Charlie Weis has to get a new quarterback for the first time since he's been coaching the Fighting Irish, having to find a replacement for Brady Quinn. If he can talk running back Darius Walker into returning then things might be a lot earier.

14. Louisville: Bobby Petrino needs to somehow convince quarterback Brian Brohm to return because if he does the Cardinals might just sneak into a BCS game next season.

15. Rutgers: With Ray Rice back and quarterback Mike Teel's confidence soaring the Scarlet Knights might find themselves on the national radar again.

16. Virginia Tech: Frank Beamer is quietly building something in Blacksburg with Sean Glennon at quarterback and Brandon Ore at running back. If wide recivers Josh Hyman and Eddie Royal return then team might be thinking national championship.

17. Clemson: If the Tigers can find someone to just hand off to James Davis and C. J. Spiller in the backfield then the two might just run them to an ACC title.

18. Tennessee: Erik Ainge will probably be back in a Tennessee uniform next season, and Phillip Fulmer better hope he does with Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina to compete with.

19. Hawaii: Quarterback Colt Brennan will probably be back and will likely break every Hawaii passing record, if the Warriors can win some games he might just win the Heisman Trophy in 2007.

20. Missouri: Chase Daniel's return will be enough to make the Tigers a top 25 team in 2007.

Others to watch:
Boston College: returns QB Matt Flynn and RB L. V. Whitworth
Wake Forest:  Riley Skinner returns at QB and Kenneth Moore at WR
