Charles has spent his life in Haywood County, North Carolina, worked for Champion Paper until he retired in 1963. As a young man he served in the National Guard, and has enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout. He is a devout Christian, serving his church (North Canton Baptist) as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and several other positions. He is a Mason, member of the order of Eastern Star and active in the Gideons. He and his wife work to enrich the lives of anyone they find in need. They make their home in Canton, North Carolina.

Mazie was a member of the West Canton Baptist Church and a member of the Oak Leaf Chapter of the Eastern Star where she served as organist for many years. Mazie passed away after a very long illness and is buried in the Patton Cemetery near Canton, North Carolina.

By Jewel McClure. I have always heard many wonderful stories about
Preston because he was my moms oldest brother. They apparently were very
close growing up and had many good times. He built bulger wagons for them
to play on. They would take a log and cut four wheels and attach it to boards to make a little cart using a cross cut saw. They would take these carts to the highest hill they could find and ride them down. With his father gone so much Preston became the man of the house. If one of the children came to the dinner table without washing their face and hands Preston would ask Grandma in a loud voice. "Hey mom, what did you do with that wet diaper you took off that baby a while ago." Mom said that he never did have to use the wet diaper that all the kids would run for the wash pan and clean up before returning to the dinner table.
Preston joined the Army January 10,1946 at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. He went
overseas as a cook on a ship. When he returned home there were no jobs in Tennessee so he went up north to Michigan. Eventually he went to Ohio and met and married Ann. Shortly afterwards he hurt his hand working in a factory. He lost his thumb and pinky fingers in the accident. He never had any children of his own but he adopted 6 children and fostered many others. He eventually came back to Tennessee and bought a farm in Newport. There he raised tobacco, pigs, chickens and food for the table. He lost his wife in August 1989. His mother lived with him until his death in 1992 due to complications from maturity on-set diabetes. He is buried next to his wife in Union Grove Cemetery, Newport TN.

After Kate graduated from Canton High School, she went on to earn a degree in business from Blanton's Business College. She then worked for a group of lawyers for a few years. With marriage and children, she quit work and became a full time homemaker, wife and mother. Kate developed M/S, against which she fought a long and hard battle. It was a battle that she lost in the end. She is buried in Crawford Memorial Cemetery.

This is my Step-father. He came into our lives at a very young age. He became our father. We all called him daddy. I told him shortly before his death " You earned the right to be called father. Patricia was found in her car with a gun shot in her chest. She was in the process of getting a divorce from Jimmy and had been rumored to be seeing another man. She left Jimmy place of work earlier in the day and was supposed to attend a birthday party for her niece later on that evening. She was found in her car with a gunshot to her chest that night. The man who found her said he thought she was a sleep at first because the radio was playing and the doors were locked. When she wouldn't awaken he broke the car window thinking something was wrong with her. When he discovered she was dead he called the police. the weapon was never found. Regardless the police ruled it a suicide.
