Noticed a couple things today:

So since I had to leave for work, I couldn't try to catch the tang and quarentine him. But I did move the coral over and up about 3 more inches away from the xenia. Hopefully it will re-inflate again. It was doin great until I got the xenia, and then HALF of the xenia died off and fouled up the tank good.

Bubble Coral has been retracted and continues to spew it's zooanthanlalgae (can't spell). I had it dead center of my tank, and a little higher then everybody else. I'm assuming it was getting too much light. So I moved it even FURTHER away, and down. Now it's closer to my star polyps, anemone, and the ground. I'm at work, and I only had the lights on full power for about 30 minutes before I had to leave, but it looks like it'll inflate fully today. Or at least better then it has.
My Xenia is flowing very well, never retracted except when the lights go out. But, it's very pale pink. I swear I see some new xenia growing out of it, but it's hard to tell at this point.
Ever since tuesday, when I was removing some glue from some rocks and cause them to move a bit, my yellow polyps have started to fall off again. Grr. Those things are WAAAY too sensitive. I don't get it. Oh well. Next time I'll probably get Button polyps, those seem to do WAY better in my tank anyways. The green ones that came with my starpolyps look great.

Moved my bubble coral again to the far left of my tank, so that it's low, not in the current of the xenia, and not touching the glass (so that the algae on the glass doesn't try to overgrow it). Also, I noticed that my Star Polyps are starting to grow on my other rocks! Sweetness. If that and the mushrooms start growing everywhere, that would be soo tight.

Very happy today! Went to Steve's Tropical Lagoon down on Georgia, hung out there for awhile talkin to the owner, and got a piece of rock with 2 mushrooms for $5! Steve's a good guy; he's been a friend of the family for a number of years. My dad and him used to hang out alot, and my dad would also do plumbing work for him. To anyone out there, I'll always recommend his store. Great service, prices, and guarentees.

Also, a week or so ago, when I got the Xenia, one of the three pieces came attached to a rock that had other pieces of coral. Well, when that piece died, the rest of the rock came alive. Note the incredibly small piece of Xenia that DIDN'T die. At least the one large rock is thriving. It took me a while to try and identify what's on there. If anyone knows for sure, please leave a comment.

I know I said I wouldn't buy anymore coral once school started...but I couldn't resist this one. It's an Orange button colony that's been sittin in the store tank for a good 3 weeks, and at $35 it's a good deal. Plus they threw in a grape coral frag! He brought the price down a couple bucks for me...now I'm just hopin the frag pulls through. It's a neon green and orange grape/hammer coral.

The neon green grape coral still hasn't opened up...I've been flushing it out with a small baster once a day, every day to make sure it doesn't get infected. The Yellow zooanthids have really taken a hit and their numbers are pretty small now. On a good note, the bubble coral's tentacles are finally out again!

Went out and got me a little xenia frag for a buck. Man I love the tropical Lagoon. And I found out that what is actually growing on that frag with the three corals are in fact colt and tree corals, only reverse the names (labeled it wrong).

02/13/06

Xenia frag is still alive. Got a strange silver tint, but it's waving and stretched out, so I think it'll make it. I did a freshwater dip on a leather mushroom yesterday cause it looks like it has a flatworm infestation, and today it's opened halfway up again. And my yellow tang has black spots, and the blue tang has ich. But they've had it for a long time now, and apparently ich is chronic with the blue tang. Also, I think I figured out what the mystery shrimp creature I saw was. After looking around on the net, it looks like a Pistol shrimp. Supposedly harmless. We'll see.

Had to cut a dead portion of xenia from the big main frag. Rest of it is doing fine, as is the newest xenia. Noticed my grape coral seems to be retreating some, I hope it's not a sign of things to come. And my bubble coral actually ate some food for once, even though literally half of it doesn't react. Moved the 2 p/p mushrooms lower and in a corner, away from other corals and current.

02/19/06

Let's see...the xenia's been doin great, I actually notice some new sprouts coming from it. And I discovered a new baby leather mushroom underneath it's mother colony! I also went out and bought 3 purple mushrooms, a striped mushroom, and button colony frags for $10! I'm a very happy camper!....well...except for one thing. My grape coral is slowly dying, one of the heads died yesterday, and I don't know why. The only thoughts I have are that the grape coral frag I bought awhile ago hurt it, or that I didn't feed it enough.

Went out today and got some more coral. I am seriously addicted. I'm serious! This is not good for a broke college student to be addicted to!! I'm just waitin for my next paycheck and tax returns, I'll be back in OK country for a while. Anyways, got a Super colored Button colony, and a couple mushrooms. I love it when I think I only buy a few and it turns out to be alot! I didn't realize the purple mushroom was splitting, and the Red Purple dotted mushroom has two babies growing next to it. Anyways,

Purchased a number of coral over the weekend, and have good and bad news to report. Looks I haven't updated in a while, so I'll run over what I got recently: Frogspawn, Owls Eye, Grape coral, Hammer coral, and some more mushrooms. I also ordered a new light, with 3 cords, last thursday, so I can finally set the damn tank to a timer!! Anyways, bad news first. I got another piece of neon grape coral, and that one died offically today. Think it lasted a week, but it never inflated, and today it let out a huge amount of brown gunk and disinigrated. Everything else in my tank has been doin pretty good. Here's some of the new inhabitants:

Since I finally got my light with 3 plugs, I was able to go out and find some timers, so now my coral have a definite set schedule. And I don't have to worry about the lights being on too long cause I'm out with val or some friends :) I went out today and also got me a feather duster! Too bad they didn't have the neon green brain anymore. I really wanted that! Other sad news to report is that all of my grape coral is officially dead. I'm not really sure what killed it. I'm gonna assume chemical warfare with the hammer coral. And my Owl Eye still hasn't fully expanded or anything yet. It only did it the second day after I bought it. Well, I'm looking into getting a quarintine tank, so once I get that in he goes! Part of my xenia, the lower colony, is also dying off as well. I've read that xenia has a habit of doing that. Well, if it dies off no big deal, I wasn't that crazy about it anyways.

03/15/06

Went out today and got a 20 gallon to use as a quarentine tank. Got it for $20 bucks, including the heater, filter, flourescent hood, gravel...all kinds of goodies! Great deal, really nice guy. Now I'm just testing it to make sure it doesn't leak. I'm gonna pick up some new bulbs for my 20" PC and new filter media for the filter. On the coral front, my Green star polyps are doing fantastic, slowly growing all over the surrounding rocks. My bubble coral is slowly coming back, as the mouth isn't wide open, and all of it's bubbles are re-appearing. The lower colony of my xenia is pretty much dead though, and my birdnest is dying off as well. Doesn't surprise me, though, considering the tree coral is literally growing on top of it, and it's in between the frogspawn and hammer coral.
