False Starts

Hollow footsteps resounded through the quiet, deserted city. Only one man remained there, and he wasn’t even sure why. He walked through the city, in and out of buildings, up and down streets. He walked for what seemed like hours. Finally, he came to a house. One of the few that looked like it hadn’t been hit by something. It still seemed to be in perfect condition; no broken windows, locks on the door still in tact; until he broke it. Walking into the house he looked around through the dark. He made his way upstairs and found the bedroom. There! That was the reason that he was still there…still there in that dark, deserted city. Walking over to the nightstand, he reached down and picked up the rose that lay there. A beautiful light blue rose. He inhaled deeply the scent that it gave off, and he closed his eyes. He knew then, that he needed to find that scent again. Even if it took him another hundred years of his life away from him…he had to find that scent. He had to find the man that scent belonged to. He had to find him.

I walk a lonely road
The only one I that have ever known
Don't know were it goes
But its home to me and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

“But why? Why are you doing this?” A man with light blue hair, and a feminine face, asked the dark blue haired man pinning him, half naked to the wall of his home.

“Because I want you, Aphrodite.” The other said, pinning him harder to the wall, and licking up his face.

“Stop it!” Aphrodite protested, trying to get his hands lose from Death Mask’s hold on them.

“No, my darling Aphrodite.” Death Mask replied. “I’ve been looking too hard and too long for you. I’m not stopping now….not while you’re in my grasp.”

“But why?” Aphrodite asked, still straining to get lose.

Death Mask replied…

My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

Rejection. Something that doesn’t normally set well on the minds of the mentally insane. Again, Death Mask wandered, looking for something…something he longed for in the bottom of his empty heart. He was confused, part of him wanted to die, the other part, he wasn’t sure what the other part of him wanted. He was alone, he knew that…something that always seemed to happen to him. It drove him further insane, drove him closer to that edge that he always seemed to fall over. Fucked up was one way of describing him, but he couldn’t explain why. Why was he like that? Sometimes he couldn’t even tell why he woke up in the mornings he was so crazy.

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line of the edge
And were I walk alone
Read between the lines of what's
Fucked up and every things all right
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

Again he had Aphrodite pinned beneath him. Aphrodite was struggling with all his might, but could not get away from the man most feared. At this point, Aphrodite wasn’t exactly sure he wanted to get away. After all, Death Mask was actually rather handsome, and Aphrodite was so lonely. What if Death Mask did love him? Was he even capable of love? Aphrodite felt Death Mask’s lips on his own. He was surprised at the softness and warmth of those lips. Maybe Death Mask wasn’t quite as insane as every one had said he was. No insane man could kiss like that.

“You’ve been running from me for too long, Aphrodite.” Death Mask commented, after breaking the kiss.

Aphrodite smiled coyly. “I’m only playing hard to get, D.M.”

Death Mask smiled. “Really? Well it looks like I’ve got you. You can stop playing.”

My shadows the only one that walks beside me

Till then I walk alone
Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh
Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah
I walk alone
I walk a...

Walking, walking through another empty deserted city, following only where his instincts told him to go. He had lost Aphrodite again. Not because of anything either of them had done, but because of Athena. Aphrodite had been reported as lost…dead… Death Mask didn’t want to believe it, so he didn’t. He went looking for his blue haired, blue eyed beauty, hoping he would find him alive. He had been everywhere, but had found no sign of him. Now, he walked through the same streets that lead him to Aphrodite’s scent, and he found himself at the same house where he found the light blue rose.

Entering that very same house, he walked upstairs, to the same bedroom, and looked in. There, setting on the bed, was his beautiful lover. Aphrodite looked at Death Mask and his eyes lit up.

“Death Mask?” He asked, rising for his spot at the head of the bed, a slight limp showing through his walk.

“Aphrodite?” He asked in return. He took a step closer, afraid that the vision before his eyes was really just that…a vision, and would vanish if he dared believe otherwise.

Aphrodite knew no such fears as thinking you’ve just totally lost it and you’re hallucinating. He ran as best he could to Death Mask, and flung his arms around him.

Death Mask, hesitant still at the thought that Aphrodite might vanish before his eyes, slowly wrapped his arms around him, hugging him close.

“I thought I lost you…” Death Mask whispered.

“But you found me again, D.M.” Aphrodite whispered back, and kissed Death Mask softly on the jaw.
