Long Before Devin Garramone even thought of being a lawyer, weaving his way through society and giving legal advice, he was a devoted young student of the saxophone. Under the mentorship of sax legend J.R. Monterose , Garramone developed strong ideas of sound production, modern harmony and rhythm, which J.R. demanded. Garramone molded his own style and sound through his intense study and practice accompanied by Monterose's encouragement and insight of music both on and off the band stand. Garramone studied with Monterose up until the time of his death in the fall of 1993. After the death of his mentor that fall, Garramone continued his study independently and began to perform publicly with literally hundreds of bands throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. The Devin Garramone Band promises to be a visionary force in the upstate New York region and beyond. Garramone is without a doubt the greatest underground Sax player to emerge from the region since his mentor, J.R. Monterose. With the release of Nite Blues, The Devin Garramone Band has stepped out of the shadows of obscurity and is pushing the limits of modern jazz to new heights and sounds. |
