The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador, established in 2001, is the highest honour of the Canadian Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. A maximum of 8 individuals are awarded annually. The first awards were presented in 2004.

Purpose

The Order recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner the province and its residents. Quotes.

Eligibility

Canadian citizens who are current or former long-term residents of the province are eligible to be nominated for and to receive the Order.

Members of the House of Assembly or the legislative assembly of a province, or members of the Senate or the House of Commons of Canada; and judges of a court are not eligible to be nominated for or to receive the Order while they are in office.

Honorary Appointments

Individuals who are not Canadian citizens or long-term residents of the province may also receive an honorary appointment to the Order. Removal from the Order

The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador Act which created the order allows for termination of an individuals membership. For this to happen, a recommendation for termination is made to the Lieutenant Governor by the Advisory Council. This modeled after the Order of Canada.
