Pictures of the Scherer's house after hurricane Wilma passed over on Monday, October 24, 2005.
Hurricane Wilma approaches Florida's coast from the west.
Looking down at the damage from on top of the roof.
Damaged area was over the dining room.
Two sections of the roof were flung over our house, across the street and into a neighbors yard two houses away. Newspaper headlines "Bull's Eye" appeared the next morning.
I gathered up the strewn roof sections and placed them in our yard. Besides three sections which were across the street, one section was in our back yard, and a large section in our back neighbor's yard.
A neighbor helped get a tarp over the hole immediately after the storm. Then a few days later a couple of men from a disaster relief team sent by Mom and Dad's church did some patching to the roof, readying it for the shingles.
The tarp remains until we figure out what to do about replacing the shingles which are corrugated aluminum from Reinke Shakes in Nebraska. They don't sell the light green ones anymore.
.Sattelite image of Wilma moving off the Florida coast after doing much damage to South Florida.
The next door neighbor lost her new Hundai Santa Fe.
Our downed power lines were restored ten days later. It was nice to get a hot shower and cook a regular meal.
Debris pickup in our neighborhood started within a week after the storm. A month later, tons of debris are still being brought daily to collection sites throughout the county. Notice the other large roof section by Mr. Zip.
A few days after Wilma, I read this Psalm in my morning Bible reading. It seemed appropriate.
Psalm 29 - A psalm of David. 1 Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. 3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. 5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!" 10 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever. 11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
