"MEMORIES"

Written by Alice Donatelli

As I sit here in my lonely room.
I think of days gone by,
to wonder where the years went,
makes me somehow want to cry.
I think of friends and family,
who aren't with us anymore,
their hopes and dreams are silent,
like a closing of a door.
I move within the darkness,
and remember long ago.
We played a game called hide and seek,
oh how we loved it so.
The neighbors never locked their doors,
they trusted everyone.
We always helped each other,
and we knew the meaning of fun.
We never had to worry,
when we walked home late at night.
We respected everybody,
whether they were wrong or right.
I wish we could turn back the hands of time,
and go back to yesterday,
to show the younger people,
how we lived a different way.
But time keeps moving forward,
and our kids will never know,
the happy times that we once had,
fifty years ago.
