Amoniorlun Suultaid (We Are Calling To Suulta)

This is an ancient hymn sung by the land Elwens of the Tableland to praise Suulta, often after an averted battle or the healing of an important public figure. It is considered a solemn and moving invocation of the goddess.

Aril first; the translation follows.

Amoniorlun Suultaid

Amoniorlun Suultaid arinilunídh,
Arini briath iinar, ueraila carai.
Lotha, lotha, Carievu!
Lotha, lotha, Danievu!

Amoniorlun Suultaid elncaralunídh,
Elncara ara, tlissal ílmasi raurde.
Lotha, lotha, Tiané!
Lotha, lotha, Iralu!

Amoniorlun Suultaid yanuilunídh,
Yanuilit, Caru i Asoldemiru!
Lotha, lotha, Aruelu!
Lotha, lotha, Almulun!

We Are Calling To Suulta

We are calling to Suulta with all our wills,
Wills mist-gray and silver-white, Her proper brilliancies of color.
Thank you, thank you, O Gracious and High Lady!*
Thank you, thank you, O Preventer of Battle!

We are calling to Suulta with all our heightened minds,**
High minds and beautiful, for the purpose of praise given voices.
Thank you, thank you, O Royal Majesty!
Thank you, thank you, O Pure White One!

We are calling to Suulta with all our souls,
Your souls, O High One and One Like Starlight!***
Thank you, thank you, O Divine Guardian!
Thank you, thank you, O Our Mother!****

Notes

* Carie is a special land Elwen word (care is the male equivalent) denoting a high lady who deserves to be called a high lady: that is, someone who has done deeds of great merit and is worthy, proud, noble, loyal, gracious, spirited, and stubborn. This is the vocative form.

**elncara is a poetic word, used to mean "a heightened and more rational state of mind." It is irregular, with singular and plural forms the same. In this case, the minds have been heightened for the purpose of praising.

***Asoldemiru is a personification of the adjective asoldemir, "like starlight," another special land Elwen word. Since Elwens were created by the stars, and they embody everything that land Elwens, at least, find desireable- height, beauty, fire, and great distance from each other among them- this is a very special and carefully chosen adjective. Given the sometimes uneasy coexistence of Suulta-worship and star-adoration among the land Elwens, it is an especially interesting choice for this prayer.

****Almulun does not mean "mother" in the sense of physically giving birth, but in the sense of "chosen mother, heart-mother." Land Elwens often have violent conflicts with their families, due to lack of a choice in being born into them and their powerful personalities, and so have a variety of kinship terms that often link them to chosen families.
