But these are grand delusions indeed and I love them because I love you and I wouldn't trade my delusions for a night in heaven or for a life in heaven. I'd rather have, over a life in heaven, a life with you. Though my rational side recognizes it would be better to have a life in heaven, my irrational side doesn't care. (because it wants a life with you). ,and when it comes to decisions concerning you, my irrational side always wins. So I will have my life with you. |

Originally was “overpowers and wins”.
The poem is actually about having a “delusional” life with Katie, by going through life imagining what it would be like to be with her and reveling in that happiness.
Initially, there was no title.
Delusions seemed like an appropriate title, and Grand Delusions seemed to convey the weight of the issue more.
This poem is – to some extent – a companion or sequel to the poem “I wish that you were next to me” (which also originally had not been titled, although that one I had always intended on titling).
