HAUNTED HOUSE

Everybody sees the haunted house,
with its put-up spider webs
and shadows skittering
behind the half-boarded windows.

But nobody sees the little boy sitting
on the creaky wooden floor inside the house,
lost,
lamenting the fact that he can't find his way back
to the life he used to have.

Every so often he sees a glimmer
through the half-boarded windows -
a "friend" or something like one.
It reminds him of the life he used to have.
- - - - - - - - -
But it's only a dream, it isn't real,
and he returns to sitting on the
dusty wooden floor again, alone.

I think it's better without the last stanza? (the one after dashed lines)
Epic metaphor, Haunted House is me, little boy is the me inside.
Glimmer of hope is an 'apparent' connection between me and one of my friends; perceived loyalty / comradery.
Considered "old" instead of "dusty" but dusty had better imagery even if less perfect meaning.
