HE CAME BACK

[This is a poem about how he came back to her,
and to the whole town.]

He finally came back from college,
like a wayward wave reaching the shore,
After four years of wandering the ocean.
He had been gone so long, that it was like he had left.
The boy who had played with her in the leaves.
Who had cried when he was upset with his friends
and said his lines badly the only year
that he chose to be in the school play.

He had had an adventure,
roaming in the seas,
seeing distant shores of other continents,
only to come back to her, with a smile,
and a decorative box to keep her heart warm.
They had both been on enough adventures,
and it was time for them to stop,
and stay
where they were at home.
