I ASPIRE

I aspire
to wind as high as
the Eiffel tower,
to be like Carl Sandburg.

But the lightning
rents the dream
and I am left
in my slow descent
through the thick night
to ground.

After reading Fog by Carl Sandburg (who is already one of my favorite poets, and objectively possibly the best poet who ever lived, in some ways better than Pablo Neruda, though I think that in terms of absolute-best lines ever written, Neruda probably wins.

Viscous added after first write, though still during first version.
