I DANCED UPON YOUR GRAVE (poem)

I danced a peppy tune
upon your grave
and kicked the flowers
from your headstone.

You were my nemesis in highschool
with
your witty retorts
and sneaky shared smirks
when the teacher wasn't looking.

The other students knew
we fought like cats
and dogs
with claws and teeth
through our words.

What they did not know,
is that I knew
your favorite actor
your favorite color
and your favorite animal.

That I would have skinned my knees
to be the one
to take you to the dance
in that dress.

I was the one who laid the flowers
by your headstone
before I kicked them.
And I put them back soberly,
when I was done.

Partly inspired by Leigh Schroeder.
She's alive and well and married (different last name now).
And skinny now, I actually knew her in 7th or 8th grade, not highschool.
