I stay awake at night   looking for you not outside,   but inside my heart. Because I know   that in this vast,   cavernous expanse, that you are supposed to be here. I wander between the infrequent stalactites looking in uncleared shadowy corners because you could be hiding there, – and I can hide there, if you aren't. I curl and cry in dark corners   of my heart, where nobody can find me. And in the morning, I will put on a smile like a mannequin. |

The poem "fog" was originally written as the third stanza but I felt it went in the wrong direction so I backtracked and rewrote from after the second stanza which produced the current poem.
