I SLIPPPED AND FELL (version 3) I slipped and fell hard upon the pavement. I stumbled in the dark, to find what I had dropped,- I cut my hands on the ice, and that's when I knew my heart was broken. I SLIPPPED AND FELL (version 2) I slipped and fell upon the pavement, in the dark. I groped blindly for that familiar feel of frozen cold. When I found the pieces, I cut my hands on the ice, and that's when I knew my heart was broken. I SLIPPED AND FELL (version 1) I slipped and fell in the dark, upon the pavement. I groped blindly in the dark for that familiar piece of ice. And when I finally found the pieces, I cut my hands on them. And that's when I knew my heart was broken. |

Ice because the heart was frozen.
For 2nd version, considered "But" before the word "when".
Neither version came out perfect.
Inspired by some song which had lyrics similar to "cut my hands on..." but it was not a metaphor in the song which inspired me.
A bit like how in Bryan Adamas song he played until his fingers bled.
whatever song it was, had some case of literal cutting hands.
