Tom was a poet who wrote his words in the dark of the night, with only the stars and his heart to witness it. Praise came rarely and far inbetween with most words criticisms about how he just dreamed. But then one day, one of his poems sold for five dollars. And Tom's eyes opened to the opalescent magic of being able to work on only what you wanted. He realized that his poem had sold - and that he could quit his day job if only he could sell more of them. Soon, he found that his poems sold more easily when they were on popular topics like disney characters. He sought long and hard for the inspiration, and wrote poems on Mickey, Daffy, and Bugs Bunny too. Poems on NASA, OSHA, and the FDA to boot. The desire for freedom nagged at his head, it whittled him down from writing about what he wanted to writing about what sold. And soon he found that the independence he had gained, just led to another place where his job was not writing the dreamy poems that he wanted to. |
