PUSHED TOO FAR

You continued to push me away
for the mistake I made years ago.
And yet you expected me to stay-
And I did.
But now you've pushed me far too far,
and having fallen into the thorns once again,
I cried for hours more than what you saw.
And now my heart is crushed and my will broken,
beneath the many stones you've cast.

So I return once again
to the shadows from which I came.
And although you do not know it,
as you walk alone through the night,
the freezing wind biting your skin,
I'll lie kneeling in waiting among the bushes,
watching over you and protecting you,
although you do not know it.
Even while the the bullets,
lodged deeply within my heart,
wound me still.

And yet I long for your forgiveness,
and a chance to stand embraced once more
in those comforting, familiar arms,
that I shall never feel again.

But I'll still be here among the shadows,
watching over you and protecting you,
although you hate me now.
