The stars rise over a mountain where two lovers sit holding hands, while I stay at home, brushing my teeth. I traded my life for abstract concepts like 'virtue' and 'doing what's right.' Katie, is this what I traded you for? Perhaps if my parents had not raised me to be such a good person, things could be different and I could be next to you. I hope you are enjoying your vagabond travels. |

Katie was one of the finest poets I have ever met.
The love of my life went to get the degree in poetry that I never did, and received a great honor for a poet at an eminent writing department.
The woman I took to my high school junior prom (whom I also loved) went on to get the degree in philosophy that I never did, and received the award for best philosophy thesis from one of the best liberal arts universities.
She had a boyfriend whom she loved at and felt torn between us.
We agreed that if she and I were unmarried when she was 33, that we would get married.
But she got married a few years ago.
