THE COBWEBS IN HER HEART

  She had spent a year
trying to get rid of her scars
   by shaving them off,
   like wood.

But seeing her scars
   I looked into her heart
and I saw cobwebs,
like nobody had been there
     in three years.
"Hasn't anybody been in here?", I asked.
She shrugged her shoulders, lopsidedly, meekly.

So I stuck my head into her heart
   and I kissed the walls
   until she moaned out
     at the tenderness
and it flushed not with cobwebs,
   but with life.

I considered taking out the word meekly.
The "it" in the second last line refers to her heart.
