THE GODDESS

The light from the street lamp
hit your face on a diagonal,
lighting it up like the face of a goddess.
Hidden in the shadows created
beside your cheeks, nose, and brow
was knowledge of the future,
that only you were privy to.
With all of that power
in the palm of your hand,
you looked at me,
and made a choice
that shifted the planets of fate.
I did not know
if you were just toying with me,
or if you did not realize
the power that you had.
