The Lonely

By Bobby Lynn Long
Does anyone know where the lonely go
When there's no one there to speak to
And who do the lonely tell
When their dreams don't all come true

And who holds the lonely close
When the world outside doesn't care
Does anyone know where the lonely go
And just how it is that they get there

And when the time is late in the evening
And the winds blow cruel and strong
Who keeps the lonely company
In their world where they are all alone

Can we see it in their faces
And pretend that we don't see
That they are our brothers or our sisters
And they could be you or me

If you see one of these lonely spirits
As you go by, smile and say hello
And you just might aid this lonely soul
To get to where dreamer's go
