Virgin Atlantic Announces First Increase In Services Since September 11

NORWALK, CT -- Virgin Atlantic Airways announces plans to increase services on some key routes in response to an increasing demand for air travel. Steve Ridgway, Chief Executive of the airline said: "Our load factors, particularly on leisure routes have been improving for some while now and we feel the time is right for a number of incremental increases. We will be increasing services between London and Las Vegas and Antigua, as well as reintroducing two additional services per week between Heathrow and Newark. I'm also pleased to announce additional service between London and the developing markets of Shanghai and Lagos." "After September 11 we moved quickly and decisively to realign our business to the new demands of the market place and we are beginning to reap the rewards of that action." NORTH AMERICA From July 30 until August 27, 2002 Virgin Atlantic will add an additional Tuesday service from Gatwick to Las Vegas making a total of three services per week to this key city. From June 4, 2002 an additional Tuesday service will resume from Heathrow to Newark and from July 24, on Wednesdays until early September. This means that Virgin Atlantic will operate four daily flights, giving us morning and evening departures every day of the week between London and New York during this period. ASIA Virgin Atlantic will increase its services from London to Shanghai starting July 2 to October 22, 2002 by adding a Tuesday service to compliment its existing tri-weekly service. The extra capacity will service the increased demand on this route to one of China's most popular destinations for both business and leisure travelers. AFRICA The African routes that Virgin Atlantic serves from London are becoming increasingly popular and to improve this service the airline is adding a Tuesday service to Lagos from March 19, 2002 that will help to match demand on this route. Consequently there will be five Virgin Atlantic flights between the UK and Nigeria each week. CARIBBEAN From April 19, 2002 Virgin Atlantic's London to Bridgetown service will be revised to introduce a second Antigua flight on a Friday enabling passengers to frequent these most beautiful of islands with more ease. Steve Ridgway said: "We need to maintain our focus on controlling our costs and growing our revenues in all cabins in the months ahead. This revised flying schedule gives us an overall capacity increase of over 5 percent and that demonstrates that we can look to the future with increasing optimism."
