Easter Maiden

by

Eostre maiden bountiful blessing,

Honoring youth with a full heart,

Your secret hares playing in the moonlight,

Gathering the eggs in their midnight gatherings,

Bringing the season to rebirth,

Renewing the land with beauty,

Flowers springing forth as your day begins,

The large feet dance under your moon,

The long toothed rabbit capturing your swoon,

The day gathers light that pushes away the night,

Ancient standings stones promising rebirth,

Lapwing bird eggs are homage to your queen,

Sweet clover springing from the moistened grounds,

Newly thawed from winters chills,

Gift of balance from the east,

This is the time when things can change,

Storms are chased by sunlight,

Promising growth from the corn maiden,

New youth is brought to the front as the mother gives birth,

She cradles her young tenderly with mirth,

The hare parliament sits round your moon,

Do not summon the maiden’s child to cry,

Chase them no more with hounds hunt,

Their purity shines like the sun to the east,

With but love for their white skinned Eoster,

Transformation births anew as the equinox dawns,

Let the Goddess grow full with her child,

And turn the gates to release the night from the day,

Her child will come again to flower the fields,

Dark heart now restored to seed the bounty,

Persephone’s Demeter honoring her daughter,

With the sea gathering the spring tide,

The land pushing forth her flowers,

And the warm winds coming down on her back,

So shall the rabbit’s dance under her moon,

And the Goddess offers them a sweet tune.
