Band 3 (Ages 10-14)
Again, progressions will be made in the level of difficulty of work. There is not a vast workload but at this level students can expect a challenging lesson. Books read at this level include J.R.R. Tolkien's ' The Hobbit' as well as the J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' and for advanced students some classics, e.g. Charles Dickens and George Eliot. Poetry will advance and classic poets will be taught, e.g. Christina Rosetti, etc. Examinations will continue to take place. Students entering at this level will be asessed as to which exam should be sat first, but generally should begin at Grade III or IV. Some of the less complex Shakespearian plays may be studied...for example 'Romeo and Juliet' (this will not be studied until the age of about 13), while theory of speech work will continue.
