Poets find inspiration in a single falling leaf. It's not hard to conceive then, of the rhapsodies art brings to a writer's mind. From Michelangelo to Warhol, words have streamed across pages from poets moved by artists. Creativity is the artist' s vision, words are the poets expression of it. Sculpture, photography, paintings, all are causes to raise the pen. Artist Alex Nodopaka makes magic with his art, "choreographed chaos," is how he describes it.
Art appeals to almost everyone, whether it be a Picasso or Rembrandt. Writers try to put in language the emotions artists evoke in them. Who of us hasn't been frightened by a Munch or wished they were attending a Renoir's party? As poet Kenny A. Chaffin wrote of art, "Would the world be any different without the Mona Lisa? I would say 'yes' ." The poets featured here also agree.
Art challenges poets. The poets here accepted it and, I think, succeed admirably. Their mission: take the paint brush. Write a poem with it. Make it a masterpiece. We hope you enjoy the results.
Until next time,
