Beggars in Jerusalem
by Janie Hubbell
(c) Adam Gaucher
Watch your step…

With your
harsh baggage
tied like a life raft
I will tip you
into stillness
savoring
your black and white

squares
that squint
like closed eyes
their sharp edges
tied together
by knots
that will unslip
if touched

Please keep
your hands
inside the moving car
at all times.

Understanding
wrapped and ribboned
like a gift
holds only empty.

like trying to unthink
the perceptual motion
of the tide.

Please exit left.
