My Butterfly

We see dreams in vivid color
Dulled by the screams of another.
We genuflect under gift-wrapped verbs.
Where will we be in a decade of paper words?

I have been circumnavigating a flat world
Losing sanity digging in flesh unfurled
The trees, swords stabbing stone, and your black orbiting eyes.
Look straight away as if you see ghosts in me, or lies.

We are, my love, unwinged butterflies sharing one cocoon.
Soon we'll leave the chrysalis to flutter where roses bloom.
We may set adrift on a stormy breeze
But then we'll emerge like winter trees.

If we believe and keep the faith alive
Words will not break us and we will survive.
Be strong and still, this storm will pass
We both know this night is not our last.

When and if you fly away
I will remember every day.
Some things are just inevitable,
But to me you are incredible.

Your eyes, your wisdom and all your glory
I'll carry forever as my greatest life story
And though, I'll miss the honey taste of your lips
You can't hang on to a sinking ship.

So, fly on my beautiful butterfly
And take my broken heart with you as high as the sky.
For when I look up into the cool blue moon,
I'll remember that once...we shared a cocoon.
