“Heading Home”
by: daniel fesperman
I’m on my way home far away from here,
Away from everything I’m running from.
What she said I just don’t know,
It’s the way she said it that hurt me so.
The way home is dark and long,
Longer tonight than it used to be.
I’m walking away from a place in my past,
And I’m running into the future.
The future is now the present,
And then the past.
I’ve turned around to chase the past,
But I’m heading into the future.
The further I go, the shorter the wait,
But, I know, I am in no hurry.
At first I was running, but now I am crawling,
Praying it will all be gone in the morning.
