Married Stranger

Married Stranger who are you?
You didn't open up your heart
or ever tell me the truth.
I didn't really know you.
We were lovers for
so many years,
but you were always
withdrawn and aloft.
You had a beautiful family
that you said you loved,
a wife and children.
But, we were only
good in the bedroom.
And when we had
a good ole' fight,
you belittled me
and took away my pride.
You romanced me
for many years.
You were a married stranger
in my life.
You took me many places;
we wined and dined so well.
You gave me many beautiful
gifts to show you cared.
But, your words were few
and I never knew
what was truly in your heart,
or what was in your thoughts.
I gave you my youth
and you gave me yours too.
I wanted to have kids with you.
We were so young when we met.
I loved your wavy, dark hair,
and your dimpled smile.
I loved your handsome face,
but never knew your soul.
Once I thought you really
loved me, but did you?
It seemed I was just a
possession to satisfy
your passion.
Did you ever show your
heart to me, or to your wife?
Did you hold me close
when there was strife?
Did you ever comfort me
when I was sad?
Or were you hiding many
secrets you wouldn't reveal?
Did you tell me lies?
I didn't see your tears
until I said good-bye.
Married stranger I
thought I once loved you.
But, as I grow older
I know now I couldn't
really have loved
a stranger of whom
I didn't really know.
We had a hot affair,
and it lasted many years.
But, when the passion ends
it leads to a dead end.
I'm sorry that you didn't
take me into your confidence,
as you would any friend.
I wonder if you told your
Mistress the things you
didn't tell me?
I'm sorry we had a bitter end.
But, when I married you,
so many years ago,
I thought you'd be an open book,
and share with me your soul.
I found that I was married to
a stranger of whom
I didn't even know.
That's why we got divorced.
I was married to
a married stranger,
of whom,
I didn't even know.
