Sitting in a dim-lit bar
piano tunes filling the air.
All alone and staring,
into the open door,
My hazy gaze saw you there.

Across the street you passed me by.
I knew it was you
from your stride;
I saw your face from the past.
You turned the corner
before I could speak,
and my heart skipped a beat.
I wanted to run into the street,
and hold you again
with kisses sweet.

Oh, please, don't leave,
come back to me!
I saw you there,
disappearing into the lonely night.
As the fog took you from my sight.
You were gone again,
and I was left alone
by the candlelight,
upon the wooden table,
within the moon-lit night.
I knew within an instant
that it was really you.
Then in my wondering
memory, I remembered
all we did and all we said.
I remembered you,
and everything.

How we laughed,
and how we cried,
And for only a second
I thought you still alive.

And then I remembered,
that you were dead.
And that our love has lasted
far beyond the grave.
