MESSAGE FROM A HERO

I ascend above the smoke and dust on angel's wings.
I feel no pain.
I am at peace.
My spirit is intact.
My days are done and my journey is complete,
even though yours must go on.
You feel lost, I know,
but you have a life you must yet live --
for your sake, for the sake of others,
for the sake of a nation, for my sake.
I do not have a way to comfort you directly,
to ease your pain, to help you to tomorrow,
but there are those
who will help you move forward from this day.
Draw them close.
Untold numbers reach out now with sweat and tears
and concern and kindness and prayers --
may you be blessed by their love.
Remember what I learned.
I became complete when reaching out to others,
for you are not the only one in need,
even as great as your need now is.
There will be a point beyond today that you will find
that service to others will make you whole.
It is a lie that time erases all wounds,
but it does allow us to learn to live with our scars,
and that is what you must now do --
learn to live again.
Your tears may blind your view
that the process has already begun.
May life be gentle for you until, in good time,
you, too, know the perfect peace that I know now.
Be well until we are reunited,
for one day you and I will ascend together
on angel's wings.
