Hello! Kia Ora! Aloha! I am 'Happy as Larry' Urban Shaman and Magician.
I am a volunteer magician named "Happy as Larry" and my aim is to promote magic and magical entertainment to children simply for the joy of spreading magic to children for their wellbeing, emotional health, fun, excitement, and developing imaginations and creativity.
It is my intention to volunteer for any organisation, group, or individuals dedicated to fostering the emotional and creative wellbeing of children.
"Happy as Larry" does not perform for audiences larger than 25 people and prefers working with smaller groups - as some of the magic is 'close-up' magic.
"Happy as Larry" currently performs in the Dunedin/Otago area for birthday parties, small events, as a street performer/busker at local Farmers Market, and has performed for the Dunedin Public Library Childrens Libraries during "Family Fun Week". He has also been asked to teach magic to children in the Movement Clinic of the School of Physical Education to help develop coordination. He has also performed magic for English language schools to speakers of other languages.
Background
I used to be a magician when I was a teenager and young adult.
I gave magic shows to church groups, schools, hospitals, and children's birthday parties both individually and as a member of the high school magic club. I was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians for a while.
I sort of stopped doing a lot of magic while concentrating on my career as a designer and later design lecturer. Although often incorporated magic into my teaching.
After leaving my teaching position at the University of Otago I rediscovered magic.
A former student asked me to perform a magic show at her 50th birthday - she remember the magic in the classroom!
After the 'resurgence' of magic in October 2005 I realised I could perhaps busk on the streets of Dunedin. . . which I have done and have also started busking magic at the two local markets on Saturdays.
