DREAMBOAT

This was written when I was 22 years old, and on B24 flight duty in Gunnery School in Florida

I took a ride on a dreamboat and watched the clouds passing by,
A land beyond the rainbow for people like you and I.
It was all a huge garden of love flowers, and the streets were all lover's lanes
And all the park benches were love seats and the evening never wanes.

The trees were all filled with Lovebirds, and an Organ played "I love you",
The night was filled with loveliness for the moon and the stars shone through.
Soft zephyrs whispered among rustling leaves and a robin warbled to his mate,
And it was such a beautiful garden oasis, I thought I had met my fate.

But I looked and beheld the loveliness of you, and the vision lingers on,
I thought I was in heaven, and you Angel, and I dreaded the coming dawn.
Then I thought this must be a dream, having seen a beauty so rare,
And I thought "if I found a girl like that, would she ever care?".

When I approached to see if I could touch you, my vision faded away,
And I awoke reaching for empty space and saw it was breaking a new day.
And now though we may be far apart, I can wait till the stars twinkle anew,
And take a ride on my dream boat, and meet my vision of you
