The Lighthouse

The Lighthouses of America, erected in coastal states,
Designed to warn Seafarers of the peril that awaits
If they fail to heed the warning the piercing light emits,
And end up on the rocks being dashed to bits.

They may signal shallow waters or reefs just below,
And every Mariner who sees the light will know
That danger is present, unless guided by that light
He steers the vessel safely on a dark and stormy night.

The tempestuous sea of life is similar in every way
And safe harbor is illusive day after day.
With temptations and trials like undetected reefs
Tend to sink us and challenge our very beliefs.

We wallow through waves of doubt that are so high
They obscure our vision and we don't want to even try
To maintain our ideals that we're struggling for.
Then we catch sight of the lighthouse upon the shore.

It's the church on the corner or up on the hill
In which the lights of hope are burning still,
Preaching "come to Jesus and be set free
And not like a floundering ship at sea",

To enter smooth waters and turn your night to day,
It's so easy, come into the lighthouse and pray,
Receiving forgiveness and freedom from sin,
And the safe harbor? Having Jesus within.
