Survival

Several years ago, around two thousand two,
Something occurred that I now relate to you.
By ambulance I went to the Hospital door
Where they hurried me to the emergency floor.

Decisions were made quickly, no time to lose
Being Pneumonia, there were no options to choose.
A needle is quickly inserted causing a little pain,
But is transferring Antibiotics into a vein.

Day by day it continues , Different drugs every day
But none were effective, life was slipping away.
Then one night I heard the death-rattle in my chest,
The world's best antibiotics hadn't met the test.

Remote gauges showed the nurse That I would soon be dead,
She left her desk and came and knelt by my bed
A Pastor came to pray, observed the sound and sight,
And told my Wife he didn't think I'd make it through the night

The staff of the Hospital knew that I was facing death,
It was obvious that I was about to draw my last breath.
About Two O'Clock in the morning I threw my hands in the air,
And said "Jesus, My life is open before you and bare.

My wife and children all need me as their helper and guide
To make sure the word of God is in their lives applied.
I have led them all in the right path to you, my Lord,
And they have all come to you of their own accord.

Master, if you will restore me to health and strength, too
I will give every breath of my life back to you.
As your possession, all my deeds and actions will be yours
And I will go wherever you open the doors.

And now, four years later I am strong and alive,
In one more month I will be eighty-five.
So if you have a desire to live the same way
Give yourself unreservedly to Jesus today.

Don't try to hold anything back from Him
And He'll fill your empty life to the brim.
An added bonus, you will soon find out
Your whole life will be without worry or doubt.
